There’s no fooling anyone today! Our Program Director has planned another spectacular month of programming. Among the holidays and special observances being highlighted in April are Volunteer Appreciation Week and Earth Day. A grand celebration acknowledging residents with birthdays this month has also been planned. Celebrants will be surrounded by friends and family during the festive occasion. We hope each resident’s day is filled with love and joy. Happy birthday to all!
Thanks to SpringRidge at Charbonneau’s maintenance-free lifestyle, residents find they now have time to pursue new interests or rediscover hobbies. For many, this involves crafting. To show off their talents and passions, the active retirement community will host an Arts & Crafts fair today. In addition to hand-made pieces, the show will feature photography and woodwork. Working with our hands can have many benefits including honing motor skills and aiding with important visual processing abilities.
SpringRidge spent the morning enjoying the community’s annual Easter Brunch. Executive Chef Keith McCrea and our Food Services Director Danny Fernando created a buffet menu filled with mouthwatering specialties and brunch favorites such as Country Scramble Eggs with Bell Peppers & Tillamook Cheese; Smoked Bacon & Sausage; and Cheese Blintzes with Berry Compote. Residents’ families joined us for the festivities and a great time was had by all. We wish everyone a Happy Easter!
SpringRidge residents will indulge in a decadent treat during today’s outing to Kaleidoscope Chocolate Shoppe & Wine Bar in West Linn. Owned by self-taught chocolatier Tammy Golden, the store offers gourmet truffles including flavors such as raspberry, lemon, caramel and espresso. Residents will reap the health benefits of chocolate as well as socialize with neighbors in a fun-setting during this sweet outing!
SpringRidge provides curbside transportation to the area’s premier venues. Today, for example, residents will enjoy an outing to the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University. They’ll be able to view the Hexham Abbey Bible, a rare 17th-century English Bible printed in Cambridge, England in 1629. The fascinating exhibit includes works attributed to Phillip Galle, Maarten van Heemskercktch and Jan Sadeler. The outing should be a hit with the community’s history buffs.
Our Director of Assisted Living Jolene Ferguson has great advice and tips on health & wellness. This month’s tip: If you swap out one unhealthy food choice each day with a raw food such as broccoli, you’re likely to notice something wonderful happens over time - your health improves! Raw foods are high in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals (plant-derived compounds thought to help protect against disease), while often being low calorie.
In honor of Earth Day, observed on April 22, residents at SpringRidge at Charbonneau are creating their own terrarium. The project will serve as a reminder of how our ecosystem works and the importance of maintaining its natural, self-sustaining balance. In addition to the Earth-friendly activity, residents will be able to take their terrarium to their residence where they can proudly show it off. Research shows there are numerous health benefits associated with having a plant in our home, including helping with respiratory discomfort.
From healthy bones to flexibility to anxiety, Yoga can provide several physical as well as mental health benefits. SpringRidge residents are reaping these benefits and more thanks to a popular weekly Yoga class. Certified Yoga Instructor Becky DelaCruz leads the class which promotes balance, strength, flexibility and energy. The class is just one of the many fitness opportunities offered at the active retirement community.
At SpringRidge, residents have front-seat access to the most talented entertainers and musicians - all without leaving our lovely community. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, March 27th at 4 p.m. as Monte Watters delights residents with a beautiful concert. The pianist has been playing the piano since early childhood. At SpringRidge, residents are making a splash about their health! The Ladies’ Water Exercise class meets three times a week and is a hit with residents looking for a low-impact workout with big health benefits. Water exercises have been shown to reduce arthritis and joint pain while increasing bone density and muscle mass. There are weekly Water Exercise classes too.
